What Is a Lipoma?

A lipoma is a soft, fatty lump that grows slowly under the skin. It is a benign tumour made of fat cells and is completely harmless. Lipomas feel doughy or rubbery to the touch and can move slightly when pressed. They are usually painless and grow very slowly over months or years.

Lipomas commonly appear on the shoulders, neck, back, arms, and thighs. While they are not cancerous and do not turn into cancer, some patients choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become uncomfortable.

Who Gets Lipomas?

Lipomas can affect anyone, but they are most common in:

4. Aftercare. A bandage is applied. Stitches are removed after 7 to 14 days. You can go home immediately after the procedure.
